1938 ZOOM: Alexander the Great: Man, God, Myth?

one-time ZOOM | Registration opens 4/1/25 10:00 AM

The course will trace the rise of Macedon from its humble and unassuming origins under Alexander’s father, Philip II, to understand Alexander’s own spectacular feats. We will then explore not only Alexander’s campaigns of conquest but the nature of the sources that transmit this history to us to question what we can “really” know about Alexander the man.

Moderator: Calloway Scott, Assistant Professor of Classics at UC, is a historian of ancient Greece. His research is informed by an interest in the entanglements of science and society. He has taught courses on ancient religion and magic, Graeco-Roman medicine, and dreams in the ancient and modern world.
