2413 An Educated Person: What Does It Take to BE One?
multi-week ZOOM | Registration opens 1/3/25 10:00 AM
Have a PhD in history, but think “entropy” is your cat's sleep state? Quantum mechanics no problem, but Shakespeare "isn't my thing" (or anyone else's in your opinion)? Able to recognize Bach's cello concerto and guess who's performing, but convinced "algebra" is Arabic for "torture?" Consider the nastiest integrals as "fun," but think "Bosworth Field" is a golf course near Chicago? Then this course is for you. We’ll listen to a variety experts say what it takes to be a reasonably educated in their fields--with lots of discussion.
Moderator: John Briggs has advanced degrees in literature and tortured himself to learn science and math. He's moderated 30+ OLLI courses. He believes that all courses are for enjoyment, and so students may remain silent and unviewed or take part in discussions as much as they wish. Numerous people have survived his courses.
