4706 The Ten Commandments: Origins, Misunderstandings, and Interpretations

Disputes about the public display of the Ten Commandments are in the news again, highlighting the significance of these ancient words. In this 4-week participatory class, we will closely read texts in the Five Books of Moses and the New Testament containing and relating to the Ten Commandments and examine differing interpretations of the verses in the Jewish tradition over centuries. A copy of the Five Books of Moses is required.
Moderator: Jonathan Perlman, a native of Baltimore, MD, graduated from Yale Univ. cum laude. After rabbinic ordination at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, he moved to Israel, living there for 25 years. He has taught adults in synagogue and community settings for decades in Israel and the U.S.
