In this class, students will discover the exciting process of Gelli printmaking. They’ll explore how layering, textures, and color choices can be combined to create bold and expressive prints. This class is inspired by artist Delita Martin, featured in the Torggler’s Gateways: African American Art from the Key Collection exhibition, who uses her art to tell powerful stories. Students will see how prints can communicate ideas and emotions. Looking at Martin’s Let Me Breathe, we’ll learn how imagery can spark conversation. For their project, each student will design a unique print that can serve as a “story starter,” inspiring their own narrative or sparking the imagination of others.
