In this class, students will dive into the exciting world of collage! Using a variety of papers, fabrics, and embellishments, young artists will explore value, texture (both real and implied), and creative layering techniques. This class is inspired by artist Phoebe Beasley, featured in the Torggler’s Gateways: African American Art from the Key Collection exhibition, who creates vibrant figurative collages with paper, fabric, and found objects. Students will also learn about human proportion to bring their figures to life. For their project, each student will design a lively collage that shows a scene of something they enjoy doing—whether it’s playing sports, making music, or spending time with friends.
