The Power of Maps

Workshops | This program is completed

Description: This three-hour workshop will introduce participants to geographic information
systems (GIS) and interactive mapping. Participants will learn to create Story Maps, enabling both educators and their students to tell place-based stories through photographs, primary source documents, other visual images, text, and of course maps. This workshop is open to all K-12 teachers across Virginia and will show how interactive mapping is applicable at all grade levels and in all disciplines. No prior mapping or GIS experience is necessary.

Food will be provided, and all participants will receive a $50 stipend. Participants will also have private access to the Torggler Center’s current show “Ansel Adams: Compositions in Nature”.

This workshop is made possible by the generous support of the Virginia Geographic Alliance (VGA), the Torggler Fine Arts Center, and CNU’s Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Anthropology.

Limited space: Please register at thetorggler.org.
