Weaving with Design Blocks
Class - Textiles | Available
Students will learn how to weave with design blocks from master weaver Kathryn Gauldin. This process is perfect for making a holiday table runner! Participants will learn how to create a warp using repetitive weaves and incorporate a turned taquette (the reverse side is a mirror image of the front). Intended for intermediate level weavers who already understand how to create a warp and to sley their loom. While this class has an intense meeting schedule, students will be able to utilize the looms for a week after the class concludes to complete their project. All supplies included. Ages 14 and up.
Kathryn Gauldin
Kathryn employs pattern, texture and color using printmaking, weaving, dyes and other materials in combinations to make art and fine craft. Kathryn enjoys the challenge of materials and structure, sometimes redefining and repurposing the intention of the material, with great inspiration from nature. She studied art at UNCG, WCU, Haywood Production Crafts program and has a BA in Art from High Point College and continues to make mistakes and learn new things. She exhibits locally, participates in residencies and presents workshops. Kathryn has been awarded several grants that fund new projects that are easily found on social media and local galleries.
