Workshop - Printmaking | FULL
Immerse yourself in the art of letterpress printing and master its fundamental techniques. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn to handset type and bring a poem or short text to life on paper. Students will delve into the process of setting metal type, operating a Vandercook letterpress, and exploring the tactile nature of creating printed pieces. Additionally, an engaging demonstration will showcase various image-making techniques that utilize the press, allowing you to expand your creative repertoire in this traditional craft.

FORMS: All students are required to sign a release of liability to participate in Sawtooth programs. You can download this form here and are welcome to bring a printed and signed copy with you, although blank forms will be available when you arrive.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Supplies are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
- Bring a water bottle and a snack.
- An extra layer in case you get chilly.
Please be considerate and leave the studio as clean as you found it to ensure that tools and materials continue to be available to all.
PARKING:
- Metered parking is available on Spruce Street and Marshall Street. It is free in the evenings and on weekends.
- Paid parking lots on Spruce Street opposite the Milton Rhodes Center and by the First Presbyterian Church on Marshall Street.
- Please do not park in the loading zone in front of the Sawtooth entrance on Marshall Street. You will be subject to ticketing.
Timothy Jeffers
Timothy Jeffers is a developed artist with a deep passion for printmaking. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Business from Winston-Salem State University. In the fall 2022, Timothy had the opportunity to develop his interest in printmaking when he served as the Printmaking Intern at Sawtooth.
During his time there, Timothy had the privilege of working with Master Printer Leslie Smith, polished artist, professor and previous printmaking instructor. This experience allowed him to explore various printmaking techniques and expand his artistic horizons. Additionally, Timothy apprenticed under the guidance of Smith and refined his skills, learned traditional approaches, and discovered new ways to express his artistic vision.
Timothy was also able to work closely with Master Printer Terry Schupbach-Gordon at The Catbird on the Yadkin Press. Here, he immersed himself in the world of printmaking by setting type for Good Impressions Readings from the Press Bed, assisting students of the Art Based School of Winston Salem in creating their own prints, while gaining invaluable insights into the art and craft of printmaking.
His artistic journey continues to evolve, and he is excited to share his knowledge and passion for printmaking with others as he teaches printmaking, inspiring all generation to explore this captivating medium.
