4101. Learn to Paint

Workshop - Graphics | Available

Learn to paint from the beginning or refresh the fundamentals of painting: oil paint basics, tools, color mixing, design, values, edges and more. The knowledge of the basics will help you to create the paintings you want! 

Viktoria will introduce you to all of the steps that are necessary to paint any subject. Whether you are interested in still life, landscape, animals or portraits the information that you get from this workshop is indispensable and will provide you the foundations that are necessary when you are learning to paint in any medium.


This workshop is demonstrated in oil but, you have the option to bring & use acrylic paints if

you wish. All students need to bring their own supplies, the recommended list is attached.

  • This course requires the following student supplied materials.

    1 DAY – LEARN TO PAINT WORKSHOP SUPPLY LIST

    3 pieces of 8”x10” canvas panel – student (economy) grade is fine.

    A few print paper and/or notebook, pen & soft graphite pencil

    Wood palette any shape (no paper nor white plastic please) plexiglass or glass is ok with neutral color backing. If your wooden palette is not varnished when purchased, make sure to varnish it at least a few days before class, so it has time to dry, with waterbased polyurethane or polycrylic.

    Small jar of linseed or safflower oil

    (for acrylic paint – slow dry medium if you are not using open acrylics)

    Bristle brushes or synthetic brushes made for oil painting

    (Filbert #2, #4, #6 Round #0)

    for acrylic users – acrylic, synthetic brushes, Flat shape #2, #4, #8, Round #0

    for example: Robert Simmons Signet F series, Master's Choice (Hobby Lobby)

    Rosemary or Princeton are also good brands

    I recommend to use professional grade paints as opposed to student grade paints for best results. NO color “hues” please, ie: cadmium red hue.

    There are many good professional oil brands, here are a few examples:

    Gamblin, Rembrandt, Old Holland, Vassari, M. Graham, Holbein, Michael Harding,

    Charvin.

    37ml size paint tubes are big enough.

    If you use Acrylic Paints: Also make sure to buy professional artist grade paints.

    Examples: Golden, M.Graham, Winsor&Newton Professional or Old Holland are good

    quality brands. Golden OPEN acrylics are recommended for ease of use.

    Colors for acrylics: titanium white, ultramarine blue,cadmium yellow primrose,

    cadmium orange, cadmium red light, permanent maroon

    Recommended Colors for oils:

    titanium white, ultramarine blue, cadmium yellow light, cadmium orange, cadmium red light, alizarin crimson

    Optional, “nice to have” colors: pthalo green, maganese blue

    NO color “hues” please, ie: cadmium red hue. Small tubes 37 ml

    For acrylics I recommend a slow dry medium, or drying retardant if you don't use open

    acrylics

          Paper towel + cotton rags (old T-shirts cut up) – small pieces

    2 small jars or small cups for the medium and a larger jar for the brushes

    1 small bottle of artists' – GAMSOL (it's odorless) or Odorless Turpenoid – BLUE label

    for oil painters only , for acrylics use water

    Palette knife - offset style, dimond shape, medium size 1.5”-2”narrow blade made from metal (not plastic)

    Vinyl gloves (optional but recommended)

Viktoria K. Majestic is a classically trained, Hungarian-American fine artist. She grew up in a small European town, where her interest in art and nature was formed at an early age. Her work has been largely influenced by the works of Zorn, Sorolla, Sargent, Levitan and some contemporary masters. She studied art both in Europe and in the United States, and her paintings can be found in collections throughout the world. Her paintings sensibly capture light, sensations and atmosphere. She has won numerous awards with her work and has exhibited at places such as the prestigious Salmagundi Club and the National Arts Club, among many others.
