Glass Casting with Molds

Workshop - Glass | Available

For the artist who wants to make sculptural glass, open-faced kiln casting offers a relatively simple and direct technique. In its essence, the kiln glass casting process involves placing glass pieces in a mold then melting the glass pieces in a kiln. The molten material takes the shape of the mold. Using premade molds, learn considerations for preparing the mold and use glass powder, pate de verre, glass frit or cut sheet to create colored designs in the mold. Learn about glass color choices, how to calculate the amount of glass needed and how to place the glass to produce smooth edges and minimize bubbles. Learn hands-on and create a project from our array of molds. Pieces will be fired after class, and available for pick up at a future date. No experience necessary.
