2302 Sgraffito Workshop with Dodie Campbell

This workshop will help you successfully apply slip, plan out surface composition and carve your designs into the clay. Bring 1-2 hand built or wheel thrown leather hard pieces and any pictures you would like to use for design reference.
Sgraffito is a pottery decoration technique created by layering color slips on a leather hard ware, then scratching off different layers of slips to create images, patterns, and texture through the contrasting colors between the clay body and color slip(s). Ages 18 +
- Each student will need to bring the follow items:
- 1-2 pieces of handbuilt or wheel thrown leather hard pieces (made from cone 6 clay)
- carving tools
- 3 watercolor brushes ranging small to medium in size.
Dodie Campbell
Dodie graduated with a BFA in ceramics from Utah State University and an MFA in ceramics from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She has been teaching beginning and advanced wheelthrowing at Sawtooth since 2006. When not running or driving her kids around town, you may find her in the studio stamping, carving, or drawing on the surface of her pots.
