218 A. Wood Firing/ Train Kiln

This a Firing Only class and is designed for students who have taken at least 1 wood fire class at Sawtooth. For non-Sawtooth students, prior wood firing experience is required.
Students will bring 6-8 pieces of bisque wares made from cone 10 stoneware clay or porcelain, and glaze/ fire at the Sawtooth Wood Kiln Pavilion at SECCA. Instructor will communicate with students regarding the size limit of the bisque wares.
Participants will develop an understanding of the unique qualities and processes of using wood to fire ceramics. During the firings, the draft created by the chimney distributing wood ash through out the kiln. The wood ash deposited on the ceramics interacting with silica and other minerals from the clay creates a varied palette of colors and textures not achievable in any other way.
Kiln loading is scheduled on Friday, September 27th, and the firing is expected to be done by Sunday, September 29th.

- A $60 material fee for the related glazes, slips, wood, and firing will be added at time of checkout.
