9332. Patterns in Relief Carving

Workshop - Wood | Registration closed 8/31/2024

During this technical workshop, students will explore different relief carving techniques through completion of a series of sample boards. Students will have an overview of the entire process, from tool selection, pattern design, design layout, rough carving, and finish carving. Students will utilize mostly traditional carving tools, but will have the opportunity to explore other techniques using grinders and wood burning tools.

Additional Info:

  • A Material Fee of $20 will be added to the class total at checkout.
  • Registration will close one week prior to the start of class.
  • Enrollment is open to students aged 18 +
  • Class will break for lunch around mid-day.

Strear, Ben
Ben Strear

Originally from Colorado, Ben Strear attended the Rhode Island School of Design where he received a BFA in Furniture Design and later was a Resident Artist at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. After relocating to North Carolina in 2016, Ben began to focus on fine woodworking and woodcarving. Ben has exhibited his work both nationally and internationally. In 2018 he was the recipient of the Bob Stocksdale International Excellence in Wood Award presented by the Center for Art in Wood. Ben and his family currently reside in Greensboro, NC.
