Gouache (pronounced gwaash) is a versatile and fun paint often called an “opaque watercolor”. Painting with gouache paint creates vivid and stunning artworks, with the ability to easily cover previous paint layers and correct areas of dissatisfaction.

During this four-week class, we will learn to paint various types of flowers, create floral-inspired greeting cards, incorporate flowers into a landscape scene, and paint a floral still-life. This class will guide you through how to use gouache paint and explore elements of art such as color, shape, and value.

Ages 9-16
To ensure that students thrive and succeed, it is important to adhere to the age guidelines.

  • CLASS INFORMATION:

What to Wear: Art gets messy, so wear clothing suitable for an artist! It sometimes gets chilly in the studios, so an extra layer is recommended.

What to Bring: Sawtooth will provide all materials and supplies needed for class. Students are welcome to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and a snack to be eaten during a break.

While parents and guardians are more than welcome to stay in the building, we kindly ask that you don't stay with your children during the class. We've found that this can sometimes hinder the creative process.

Parking: Lastly, metered parking is available on Marshall and Spruce Street and is free on evenings and weekends.

Please note that face coverings are now optional on Sawtooth's campus, including in all studios. We ask that you remain respectful of all students and keep in mind that Sawtooth is an inclusive environment. We want everyone to feel supported, safe, and welcome on campus. They're available at our front desk if you need a disposable mask.

Booze, Sarah

Born and raised in the foothills of North Carolina, Sarah Katherine Booze has been drawing and painting since the age of 12 but started her professional art career in 2017. A self-taught artist, Sarah always found herself drawn to the beauty and wonder of the natural landscapes of the world and began to paint the places around her. Her paintings are inspired by her home in North Carolina, as well as the many places she travels.

Through color, brushwork, and composition, her art illustrates the tranquility and allure of nature. The landscapes she paints possess a quiet simplicity which invites the viewer to dive in and sit for a while.
