Low-tech Sky Photography- A total solar eclipse is visible across a band of the US on April 8 and will be visible as a partial eclipse from Winston-Salem. This two-session class will prepare students to observe and photograph the eclipse and introduce sky photography. In the first class, the movement of the sun and stars will be introduced with strategies for photography with minimal equipment (a DSLR or mirrorless camera and tripod). We will practice using solar filters with the sun and discuss camera and tripod setup for night and day sky photography. Between the classes students will practice photographing the sun, the moon and stars. In the second class we will review the photographs and cover other topics of interest to the class.

Daniel, Larry

My photographic journey started about as long ago as I can remember with film and flashbulbs. I moved to a 35 mm SLR as I finished high school and documented my trip through college and graduate school. A broken camera meter led to many years of familiarity with a hand held light meter and exposure control. Most of my photography has been a record of my travels while doing research and teaching at Wake Forest, and in Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan, The Republic of Georgia, China and Japan. Along the journey, I have moved into the digital world and enjoy the image control it provides.
