Start from the very beginning learning foundational hand and machine skills to cut clean accurate joinery and build simple furnishings with wood. Once you've gained confidence in the basics, we will work our way through all the major machines of the wood studio to mill and dimension lumber and build this modern bench with half lap joinery. Skills we will be developing with this project are accuracy in marking and measuring, familiarity in working with tools and discussion of finding the right finish for the work. The bench we make in class will be 11" deep by 36" wide. This project is approachable to beginners, but some prior woodworking experience will be helpful.
