This class is available only to students who have taken at least 2 clay classes at Sawtooth and must be approved by the Ceramics Program Director. Enrollment provides access to both the wheelthrowing or handbuilding studio during hours when there is not a class scheduled. If you have previously taken Advanced Open Studio, please contact our registrar to complete your registration. If you have not previously taken Advanced Open Studio, please email ceramics@sawtooth.org

Please note that the handbuilding studio will not be available during the weekdays from July 10 to July 28, from 9:30AM to 4:00PM.

Ages: 16 - Adult

A $30 material fee for the first 25 pounds of stoneware clay and related glazing and firing will be added at time of checkout.

Liu, Po Wen

Po Wen is the Director of Ceramics at Sawtooth. He studied ceramic engineering in Taiwan and received his BFA degree in ceramics and ceramics sculpture from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and MFA degree in ceramics from Northern Illinois University.

Po Wen is the manuscript consultant for 2002 Newbery Medal awarded book, A Single Shard, by Linda Sue Park, regarding making celadon. A Place of Reflection, by Dr. Elizabeth Perril, an article about Po Wen and his works was featured in Ceramics Monthly.

Po Wen served as the director of The Pottery Workshop Jingdezhen, and executive director of Jingdezhen International Studio from 2015 to 2018 where he oversaw international residency program and facilitated international ceramics events, serving the international ceramics community in China and abroad.

Po Wen has also taught ceramic courses and workshops nationally and internationally including University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Sawtooth School for the Visual Art, Leksands folkhögskola, Leksand, Sweden and the School of Design and Arts, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China.
