In this "Color in Salt-Firing" workshop, students will investigate the use
of oxides, slips, glazes, and clays to bring out the variety of colors and
surfaces unique to salt-glazing. Lectures, demonstrations, and discussions will be presented on historic and contemporary use of salt-
glazing. 

Students will bring bisquewares to decorate, load, and fire work (to
Orton cone 7) in our catenary arch wood kiln for the first 3 days of the
workshop. While the kiln is cooling, we will take a field trip to visit
pottery studios and Starworks in the Seagrove area of North Carolina.

Eva Kwong has been firing salt kilns on and off for since the 1970s. Her interests has been on the bright colors and the orange peel surfaces that are unique to salt-firing. Eva studied ceramics at the Rhode Island School of Design and at Tyler School of Art. She has taught workshops all over the US.
