This pass is designed to provide focused time for experienced students to work in-between class sessions and is available only to students who will have completed at least 2 clay classes at Sawtooth prior to the intersession start date. If you do not meet this requirement, you can be added to the waitlist by contacting registrar@sawtooth.org. If any seats are unfilled, we will contact waitlisted students to register. 

You will have access to the hand building studio and glazing areas as well as your personal cubby space and room on overflow shelving for work in progress. Hand building students should register for 297. Please see below for the Intersession Access Pass open studio schedule.

297 Open Studio Schedule: Monday - Friday, March 20th - April 7th.
Please note: the studio will not be available on March 20th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, March 22nd from 12:00 pm to 3:30 pm, March 23rd from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Mach 29th from 12:00 pm to 3:30 pm, and March 30th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The studio will be closed Friday, April 7th.

  • No clay is included with registration, but is available for purchase in the studio or at the registration desk.
Liu, Po Wen

Po Wen is the Director of Ceramics at Sawtooth. He studied ceramic engineering in Taiwan and received his BFA degree in ceramics and ceramics sculpture from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and MFA degree in ceramics from Northern Illinois University.

Po Wen is the manuscript consultant for 2002 Newbery Medal awarded book, A Single Shard, by Linda Sue Park, regarding making celadon. A Place of Reflection, by Dr. Elizabeth Perril, an article about Po Wen and his works was featured in Ceramics Monthly.

Po Wen served as the director of The Pottery Workshop Jingdezhen, and executive director of Jingdezhen International Studio from 2015 to 2018 where he oversaw international residency program and facilitated international ceramics events, serving the international ceramics community in China and abroad.

Po Wen has also taught ceramic courses and workshops nationally and internationally including University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Sawtooth School for the Visual Art, Leksands folkhögskola, Leksand, Sweden and the School of Design and Arts, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China.
