Explore the multitude of ways in which drawing and painting can be used together or separately. Students will practice mixed media materials such as oil pastels, chalk, ink, charcoal and watercolor. The goal of this course is to let each young artist explore the infinite possibilities of mark making, as well as experience new materials and new ways to use old materials.

Bowden, Julia

Julia Bowden is a North Carolina based visual artist whose current art practice is focused around installation, drawing, and bronze sculptures. Julia grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and studied at Maryland Institute College of Art where she received a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a double major in Painting and Art History. Julia actively participated in landscape painting competitions in the Mid-Atlantic area until 2016 when she moved to Italy to pursue her Masters of Fine Arts in Florence. In Italy, Julia discovered an interest in sculpture, particularly marble carving, resin casting, and bronze casting. Her current body of work focuses on the cycle of growth and decay in nature. She creates large two and three dimensional murals evoking trees and forests. Julia is an active member of the Maryland Federation of Art in Annapolis, MD.
