In this class you will have the opportunity to look at original prints and handprinted books by such giants of printmaking as Maria Katharina Prestel (1747-1794), Kathe Kollwitz (1929- 1945), Bertha Jaques (1863-1941) who helped found the Chicago Society of Etchers, Berthe Morisot (1841-1895), Helena Forde, Margaret Taylor Burroughs (1915-2010) founder of the DuSable Museum of African American History and many others. We will talk about women printmakers and their legacy beginning with the Dominican Nuns of Ripoli Press (1476-1484) and work our way to Mary Cassatt, and Elizabeth Catlett. We will end the evening by hand printing a broadsheet poster celebrating the often overlooked history of women in the arts. Ages: 13 - Adult
