Winston-Salem has a wealth of architecture from the early 20th century that has been well documented in public archives. In this workshop, we will explore the resources to access vintage images and discuss the history of Winston-Salem architecture. Our first session, will be an online discussion and the second and third sessions will be walking tours to photograph historic buildings in downtown Winston-Salem. The final session will be an online discussion of our photographs. The class is intended for students who have a working knowledge of their camera. Mobile phone cameras are also welcome. The class will be limited to eight participants and social distancing protocols will be followed on the walking tour.

  • Masks optional for photo walks. A comfortable pair of walking shoes are a necessity.
Daniel, Larry

My photographic journey started about as long ago as I can remember with film and flashbulbs. I moved to a 35 mm SLR as I finished high school and documented my trip through college and graduate school. A broken camera meter led to many years of familiarity with a hand held light meter and exposure control. Most of my photography has been a record of my travels while doing research and teaching at Wake Forest, and in Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan, The Republic of Georgia, China and Japan. Along the journey, I have moved into the digital world and enjoy the image control it provides.
