Starting with rough lumber, learn how to mill wood to accurate square dimensions and cut to precise measurements and cut joinery to assemble the pieces. Get creative with your new skills by adding details like chamfers, decorative legs, and finish to personalize the final piece. Practice working with shop machines and Japanese hand tools, employing Japanese joinery techniques such as housed mitered mortise and tenons and a wedged hidden half dovetail joint. The instructor will have Japanese tools available to try your hand at, but the project can be easily accomplished with western or eastern style tools. Class will skip the week of Thanksgiving A materials fee of $70 will be due to the instructor upon the start of the first class.
