Landscape photography can include just about any outdoor environment, from city to wilderness. In this class we will focus mainly on natural and rural landscapes, with special emphasis on long exposure techniques (for moving water, clouds, etc.) and basic panoramic shooting. We’ll cover composition, camera settings and handling, special equipment and its use, and weather considerations. One class will be held “in the field”. Students should have a good understanding of their camera’s operation and the basics of exposure, but don’t need any prior experience with landscape shooting. Graduates of Digital Photo 1 should know all they need to get started.

  • Equipment needed: Any camera that allows full control of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO can be used, but instruction will be geared toward DSLRs and mirrorless cameras with lenses having front filter threads.
Dailey, Greg

I'm an amateur photographer in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. My work has occasionally been found hanging in one of a few local venues, but mostly I just shoot for myself. For most of my working life I've been a musician, among other things; I currently work in the music area of the UNC School of the Arts library. But my eyes have always brought me more interesting things than my ears. I was fascinated by cameras and pictures as a kid, but didn't make serious attempts at learning photography until about 2006. Landscape and nature photography was the starting point of my interest, and still constitutes the bulk of my subject matter, but I do branch out to other things as well. Some of my work can be found at dogseyeview.net.
