Explore the printmaking process of collagraph (textured collage prints) and assemblage sculptures. Use found items to create texture plates for rubbings and assemblage sculptures. Learn about artists that transform discarded or unexpected materials into works of art. Students may want to start collecting items ahead of the class- items like cleaned plastic caps and cardboard, papers and wrappers as well as items from nature. Some materials provided and available for pickup at Sawtooth a week before class. (ages 6-12)

Mahler, Katherine

Katherine Mahler is a Winston Salem based artist and teacher. She has been teaching art for 20 years to students of all ages. With degrees in Studio Art and Art Education, she is passionate about teaching students to think and work like artists. Katherine’s work has been shown in galleries and shows in Michigan, North Carolina, Louisiana and Texas. Her work is in several private collections across the country. Katherine started out as a sculptor and currently works in printmaking and mixed media exploring ideas around community, memory and identity.
