A one day painting workshop designed for teens with some experience painting and drawing. Students will meet at a local venue with their supplies and Plein Air artist Barbara Mory (barbaramorypainting.com). A demo in oils will start the day, with instruction in composition and process.

This is a full day (10-3:00). Students are asked to bring their own lunches and materials. A materials list will be forwarded one week prior to the class, along with directions to the Paint Out destination.

A release form provided by Sawtooth will be required. Students must provide own transportation.

Rain date - Saturday, June 12, 2021

  • All Participants should pack their things in a knapsack or backpack to carry where we will set up. All participants are responsible for their lunches, snacks, drinks, blanket or drop cloth to sit on for working. I will be using a stand up easel . If you have one , feel free to bring it . It is not necessary to purchase one. Wipes may be helpful for cleanup before lunch and after painting. Bathrooms by the Greenhouse are available to us.
  • All Participants need to bring a 12 x 16 sketchbook , pencils, eraser(?),and two canvases 12 x 16 , or larger.
  • We will meet at the greenhouse at the entrance to Reynolda Gardens at 10:00 and be picked back up from there. Raindate is Saturday June 12th.

  • This workshop begins with a demo in oils. Participants may use acrylics or oils. This is a chance to get a ground floor understanding of the oil paint medium. Material needs are different for each medium.
  • For Oils ( please use Gamblin for your health).
  • Burnt umber, ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson, cadmium yellow light, titanium white, cadmium red light. … additional colors may be yellow ochre and cerulean blue…small tubes are fine. A cost savings may be to buy a prepackaged set of Gamblin. The colors may be slightly different than those listed above.
  • A wooden palette, palette knife, brushes should include a 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 ( flat or bright), paint thinner like Gamblin or Sennelier green or turpenoid natural.
  • Old torn t-shirts or viva paper towels for brush cleaning, a trash bag, container( can be baby food jar with lid ) for paint thinner.
  • For Acrylics ( any brand is fine)
  • Same colors as listed above, same size brushes as listed above.
  • A larger jar with lid for water and old t-shirts, paper towels, as well as a wooden palette and a palette knife… please bring a gallon of water and a trash bag.
  • All Participants need to bring a 12 x 16 sketchbook , pencils, eraser(?),and two canvases 12 x 16 , or larger.
