Moravian Brettstuhl (Board Chair) are found throughout Germany, Switzerland, and the Alpine region of Europe, the Brettstuhl made its way to North America with the Moravians that settled in the foothills of North Carolina in the 18th Century.

Develop your traditional hand tool woodworking skills in this one day workshop building the Moravian Brettstuhl, or board chair. Refine your technique hand tools that the Moravians who settled old Salem would have used such as the Gratsäge (Edging Saw), the Grathobel (Dovetail Plane), and the Grundhobel (Router Plane, or Bottom Plane) to cut and fit sliding dovetail cleats and wedged tusk tenons to create this quintessentially Germanic piece of furniture. The class is open to students ages 14 and up. Masks and social distancing are required in this and all Sawtooth classes.

A $60 materials fee will be due to the instructor upon the beginning of class

Wilson, Christopher

Christopher Wilson is a traditional hand tool woodworking enthusiast, furniture maker, and luthier. He holds a BS from Clemson University in Mechanical Engineering and currently works as a researcher in the Aerospace Engineering field. Christopher has a workshop at his home where he runs a small business making acoustic guitars and handmade wood furniture. Christopher is originally from the mountains of Western North Carolina and he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, playing music, hiking, and Judo.
