What is a pin loom? They are small handheld looms made of wood or plastic that have pins arranged to
weave a particular pattern with yarn and a long weaving
needle. In this “make it and take it” class you will have
a chance to try weaving on a variety of vintage and
contemporary pin looms. Students will choose from
an assortment of 1, 2 and 3 square projects and can
complete 1-2 projects. (12 to Adult)
We take a max of 6 students in the class. Masks and social distancing are required in this and all Sawtooth classes.

Patton, Carol

Carol Patton holds a B.S. and M. Ed. in Vocational Home Economics Education from the University of Illinois. In 2015, she retired from the Wilkes County School System after a 38-year teaching career in Family and Consumer Science in both North Carolina and Illinois. Inspired to learn the art of weaving after inheriting her late mother’s loom, Carol learned to weave here at Sawtooth under the instruction of Pat Mauck. Realizing that “weaving possibilities” were endless, Carol continued to take many subsequent classes after that introductory class in 2007. At her home studio, Carol creates a variety of handwoven items for personal style and home décor on a wide range of looms- from multi-shaft floor looms to small hand-held pin looms. Carol sells her handwovens at the Sawtooth Gift Shop, Little River Gallery in Sparta, NC, and the new Blue Ridge Artisan Center housed within the 1915 Building in Wilkesboro, NC. Carol also teaches weaving classes for both youth and adults here at Sawtooth.
