Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, casting with organic materials gives new life to old, unused, or broken pieces of metal clay or scrap silver. Students will melt scrap metal clay in a crucible, and then pour the molten metal into an organic medium to create a new jewelry component. We will spend the morning casting, and the afternoon fabricating jewelry with our favorite component. Up to three pieces may be created as time allows. Jewelry fabrication includes soldering, stone setting, and finishing. Kit fee includes all required embellishments but does not include scrap metal clay, which students should bring. Soldering experience is recommended, but adventurous beginners are welcome.

A kit fee of $25 will be collected by the instructor during the workshop.

  • This workshop is part of the Metal Clay Artists Symposium and requires purchase of the MCAS GENERAL REGISTRATION. Payment in full is required at the time of registration. Workshop fees do not include travel, meals, or accommodations. Workshop fees, less a $20 processing fee, are refundable prior to May 1, 2021, if notified in writing to metals@sawtooth.org. If you need to cancel after May 1, 2021, please notify us and we will make every effort to fill your space. If we can fill your space, we will issue you a refund less a $20 processing fee.
