Learn how to draw, plan and design a pendant around a semi-precious gemstone. Explore how to account for shrinkage in the metal clay with a stone that cannot be fired in place. Then create a pendant in metal clay, learning how to create a custom shaped design, and layers for dimension and contrast. A hidden bail will be constructed to allow the pendant to ‘float’ from the chain. As a final touch to showcase the stone, learn how to create regular and unique prong settings.

A kit fee of $65 will be collected by the instructor during the workshop and includes PMC Flex, semi-precious stone, fine silver wire, patina and polishing materials, step-by-step tutorial, use of shared tools and equipment during class. Sterling silver necklace chains will be available for purchase separately.

Students should bring:
Basic Metal Clay Tool Kit (Roller, non stick work surface, needle tool or awl, Playing cards or depth measuring slats, glazed ceramic tile, xacto knife, water mister, release agent (cool slip, olive oil), drying plate, tweezers, sanding papers)
