This four-week course is for youth excited about learning the original techniques of creating a photographic image. Teens will be introduced to both camera handling and basic black-and-white darkroom practices. Topics include camera operation, principles of exposure, film development, printing, and composition. Weekly assignments and lectures on historical and contemporary photography explore the technical and aesthetic possibilities of film photography. The majority of class time on weeks three and four is devoted to working in the darkroom and building printing techniques.

Brunjes, Joseph

Joseph Brunjes is a Wilmington, NC native who specializes in fine art large format portraiture both on film and tintype. Joseph received his photographic training from the International Center of Photography, and the Center for Alternative Photography, both in New York City. He first learned film photography from his father, John Henry Brunjes, III, while in middle school. He has been a frequent guest on the Film Photography Podcast and the Large Format Photography Podcast. He currently teaches wet plate collodion and large format photography at the Sawtooth School for Visual Art in Winston-Salem, NC.
