Twills are one of the most versatile weaves to explore,
with lovely patterns, soft draping fabrics or dense rugs and
dynamic color play. Twills are the basic weave structure for
denim jeans, traditional overshot and have patterns with the
names “rosepath”, “crackle” and “shadow weave.” Students
will learn a bit of weaving history, how to read drafts/recipes
and create their own, explore a variety of twills and plaid,
choose yarns that are best for this project, set up a floor
loom and create fabric. Samples are encouraged. Students
can weave on their projects outside of class time in the
studio.

Gauldin, Kathryn

Kathryn employs pattern, texture and color using printmaking, weaving, dyes and other materials in combinations to make art and fine craft. Kathryn enjoys the challenge of materials and structure, sometimes redefining and repurposing the intention of the material, with great inspiration from nature. She studied art at UNCG, WCU, Haywood Production Crafts program and has a BA in Art from High Point College and continues to make mistakes and learn new things. She exhibits locally, participates in residencies and presents workshops. Kathryn has been awarded several grants that fund new projects that are easily found on social media and local galleries.
