Schedule: Friday,10/25, 6:30-8:30pm, and Saturday,10/26, 8:30am-4:00pm

Photojournalist Christine Rucker’s latest project "Dance for the River" is currently a traveling photography exhibition and film that pairs UNCSA dancers?along the Yadkin River.?The project started with the hopes of making people aware of the beauty of the river, but also the pollution damaging it.?The "River Story" workshop will include discussion of Christine’s river projects, environmental conservation photography and how the arts can play into conservation awareness. Through this workshop students will gain the tools, knowledge and inspiration to begin photographing the environment for storytelling purposes.

Saturday morning students will be shuttled to the Yadkin River and do a 2-3 hour float.? Enjoy a day of rowing and photographing on the river. Learn about the Yadkin river and the unique environmental challenges the river faces.
Some boating experience necessary.

  • Some boating experience necessary. Boats will be provided or students are welcome to bring their own. Bring a change of clothes, jacket and gloves if it's expected to be cold. Bring your own camera, iPhones are OK too, and bring your smile!

Christine Rucker is a North Carolina based, freelance photographer specializing in creating storytelling images for nonprofits, magazines and documentary projects. Her portraiture conveys a sense of place and she seeks out assignments that give voice to the subjects that are often overlooked.
