This class will focus on the basics of painting the portrait from a live model. Instructor Jonathan Dockery emphasizes the importance of capturing the model's facial features with a focus on correct anatomy. Students will learn composition, proportion, sketching in paint, and mixing and applying accurate skin tones. This class emphasizes the importance of students articulating their own goals. Whether you want to become the next John Singer Sargent, get into art school, or you simply want to find joy in the process of painting, this course can provide you with the tool belt necessary. Students will begin class by watching Jonathan paint a 30 minute demonstration of his "mud" method. Then students will have time to work on their portraits with help and instruction from Jonathan as needed. Class will conclude with a critique, where students will have a chance to voice observations, and receive feedback about their paintings.
