13-Online Schools and Education from the 17th Century to Today

May/Summer Course | Available

Over the past four hundred years, schools and education have changed dramatically from elite institutions reserved for the few to compulsory schooling for children and teens and a wide range of choices for college. How did these changes come about? What were the driving forces that reshaped education to our current system? Along the way, we will focus on both educational methods and practices, with particular focus on the rise of Christian schooling beginning in the 19th and 20th century, including the foundation and development of Calvin Theological Seminary and Calvin University as we mark its 150th anniversary.
