“White Flight" was a reality that drives the plot of the novel Green Street in Black and White. This course examines the pattern of “white flight” as it took place in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago in the early 1960’s, and more specifically among the Reformed Christian ethnic enclave and its institutions. The author will describe the writing and publishing process, read a chapter from the book, and engage the class in a discussion of the book's themes, plot, and characters.
