Exploring Italy today builds skills in unveiling history beneath the visible traces of the past. In this course you will learn how to “read” Italian history and culture through the monuments of three great cities.
Session 1: Pompeii: The Roman Republic (500 – 30 BC)
Session 2: Rome: Imperial Capital (30 BC – AD 500)
Session 3: Rome: Nucleus of the Catholic Church (500 – 1400)
Session 4: Florence: Cradle of the Italian Renaissance (1400 – 1600)

Ken Bratt retired in 2013 as a professor of classics and director of the honors program at Calvin University. He has taught CALL classes since 2010 and led CALL-CAA trips to many destinations—there’s another one to Italy in May.
