07-In-Person-Across Belief and Practice: A Look at World Religions

Fall or Spring Course | Registration opens 1/5/2026 6:00 AM EST

Around the world, people seek meaning and connection through many religious traditions. This three-session class offers a respectful introduction to Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and several groups often considered “Christian cults,” exploring their core beliefs and historical development. Together, we will reflect on how these worldviews compare with Christian teachings and consider thoughtful, informed Christian responses in an increasingly diverse world.

Session 1: Hinduism and Buddhism: We will look at how these traditions understand the nature of reality, the self, and the search for spiritual fulfillment, including key concepts such as karma and enlightenment.

Session 2: Islam: We will explore Islam’s origins, the life of Muhammad, the Qur’an, core practices, and how Muslims express their daily life.

Session 3: Christian Cults and Christian Response: We will examine several movements that differ from historic Christian doctrine and discuss how Christians can respond with clarity and compassion.

Subject: religion, history
