Monday, June 2, 2025, 6:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
Join us for an exciting and informative day in Chicago, where you will experience the city’s rich history, stunning architecture, and cultural landmarks. We will depart from the Prince Conference Center at Calvin University at 6:30 a.m. and head straight to Chicago to kick off our adventure.
Our day will begin with a two-hour walking tour led by Jim Kwasteniet, an expert in Chicago’s history and architecture. Kwasteniet, who is teaching CALL course #28 Chicago 20th Century: Power on the Prairie, has taught several classes on Chicago and will accompany us throughout the day, sharing his extensive knowledge of the city. He will also keep us entertained with fun trivia during the bus ride to Chicago. As we walk, we will take in iconic buildings and architectural wonders, learning about their history and significance.
The walking tour will conclude at the Art Institute of Chicago, where we will have lunch (on your own) and free time to explore the museum’s vast collection. With thousands of artworks from renowned icons to lesser-known treasures from across the globe, the museum provides a rich experience that highlights diverse artistic traditions.
Following the Art Institute of Chicago, we will tour Millennium Park where Jim will share more of his knowledge and fun facts about the park. Time permitting, we will then board the bus for a tour of some of the city's top attractions all while gaining deeper insight into Chicago’s fascinating sights and history.
After a full day of exploration, we will enjoy a delicious, boxed supper from Apple Spice before arriving back home.
Please note, this trip involves a fair amount of walking both on the morning walking tour and in the Art Institute of Chicago, but the itinerary will also include a number of breaks and stops.
