21-Online-Holy Saturdays: Insights from a Neglected Day in Holy Week

Fall or Spring Course | Registration opens 1/2/2025 6:00 AM EST

In our journey through Holy Week, we often mark Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, but what about Holy Saturday? With the help of some works of art, we will explore various approaches to this day, first in relation to Jesus (including the mysterious line from the Apostles’ Creed thatHe descended into hell) and then by reflecting on what it must have been like for his first disciples. In the process, we will discover how thinking about the many facets of Holy Saturday can help deepen our faith and discipleship.

Suzanne McDonald is professor of systematic and historical theology at Western Theological Seminary. She was born and brought up in Australia and then lived and studied in the UK for many years, which explains her peculiar accent! In her spare time, you are likely to find her out birdwatching or curled up with a bookprobably about 17th century British history, literature, or theology.
