This course aims to explore the intricate connections between our food system and various aspects of health and sustainability. We will delve into the effects of our current food practices and propose alternative approaches for a healthier and more sustainable future.
Session 1: Show how our current food system impacts human health.
Session 2: Explain how our current food system affects environmental health.
Session 3: Introduce agroecology (ecological principles applied to the management of food
systems and agriculture) as a better alternative to our present agriculture
Session 4: Discuss the costs and ethics to highlight that changing our food system is possible and already happening.

Dave Dornbos has been a faculty member of the Calvin biology department since 2004. Before that, he worked in crop genetics and agronomy in the agriculture industry, holding such roles as global head of seed production research, product development, and field agronomist. He is a member of the Iowa State University graduate faculty, where he teaches courses and mentors graduate students in seed technology and business, the science of agricultural seed production.
