How can we tell if a scientific discovery reported in news outlets or social media is the result of quality research? How can we tell if the report about the research is a truthful representation of the research? We will learn about the process of conducting scientific research and the process of publishing it. We will learn to identify good-quality scientific research and judge objectively reports about scientific research in popular news outlets and social media. After the presentation, you will be able to identify science “fake news” successfully.

Moderator: Vered Shacham-Silverberg completed his BS in Biology at Tel-Aviv Univ. before continuing to complete both his MS and PhD in the Weizmann Institute of Science, studying the development of the nervous system. He is currently a research associate at Jim Wells’ lab at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital, studying esophagus development and disease using human stem cell derived cultures.
