This introduction is for those who are beginning or working on a fiction project. It’s about learning, so sharing your writing is not the focus. What do you want to write? How do you get an idea and get started? Who tells your story? What's good writing? How can you improve your writing? How do you build character or plot? What does your reader want? Readings: Stevenson, Treasure Island; George MacDonald Fraser, Flashman and the Mountain of Light; Hawthorne, “Young Goodman Browne”; Hemingway, “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber.”

Moderator: John Briggs has advanced degrees in literature and has published numerous short stories. He believes that OLLI classes are for enjoyment and learning and that there should be no pressure.
