At one time, King Records was the sixth largest music company in the country. A prolific hit machine, King was racially integrated in both the musicians and the executive team. Ben Levin will give an overview of King Records, highlighting many of the great female artists who recorded for the label and illuminating a fascinating story of our city's musical and cultural history. Levin is a 24-year-old blues pianist, holds a BA in history from UC, and has compiled extensive interviews with African American musicians who performed on King recordings.
