With the recent popularity of the film Oppenheimer, Carl Bishop will discuss the Manhattan Project, a program of research and development undertaken during World War II to produce the first nuclear weapons. We’ll learn about nuclear fission, production of the materials used in making the atomic bomb, and testing of the bomb. Bishop has worked at four different Department of Energy facilities and has taught chemistry and math at Miami University-Hamilton.
