All Level

10:00 AM-5:00 PM EDT on Fri Sat

$195.00

In this 2-day hands on workshop, Christina will demonstrate how to employ multiple making methods in a single body of work to benefit both body and mind, and to create more interesting pots. Students will use wheelthrowing, handbuilding with handmade hump and slump molds, and Christina’s signature pinch and carve technique to create a wide variety of pot forms.
Christina will also show how to unify these disparate making methods into a cohesive body of work with finishing details and surface decoration, demonstrating how she creates her botanical and bird patterns with slips and wax resist.

  • Students will receive 25lb of clay, wax resist, and needed supply for this workshop.
Bendo, Christina

Christina Bendo grew up helping her parents grow food in the red clay rich soil of Virginia. It seems a natural progression that she now works in a craft that uses the same raw materials needed to grow food to make objects used to serve it. After earning her B.A. at the University of Mary Washington, she went on to complete a three year assistantship with Trista Chapman. She has been a resident at LibertyTown Arts Workshop, the International Ceramics Studio in Hungary, STARworks Ceramics, and Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts. In 2019 Christina opened her own studio in downtown Waynesville, North Carolina. The flora and fauna of the surrounding mountains provide inspiration for the patterns on her wood fired, salt glazed wares.
